An expected splash of color in a winter garden

For more than 40 years my camellias have been a predictable Barbie pink — until this year.

I don’t know why it happened, but somehow a hybrid color appeared. It’s quite a mystery.

I did nothing to generate the color shift. No plant graphing. No chemicals in the soil to artificially change the color like hydrangeas.
